The Human Resources Generalist supports daily operations of the Office and is an interface with the community, staff, faculty and students.
They are responsible for creating, updating, and applying all Human Resources policies, best practices and university guidelines in supporting the department.
The HR professional is an integral part of the HR/Payroll team with a broad scope of responsibility providing the opportunity to work in all aspects of human resources.
The Professional is responsible for making decisions within their role that affect the operations of the Human Resources Department and must exhibit significant discretion, confidentiality, flexibility, and willingness to work closely with the HR/Payroll team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Provide office administrative support.
This includes, but not limited to, assisting walk-in visitors, answering phones, processing mail, scheduling appointments and meetings, ordering supplies, keeping forms up-to-date, processing independent contractor and volunteer paperwork, maintaining HR bulletin boards and compliance notifications, processing employment verifications, paying HR invoices, prepare board agenda personnel items and keeping accurate financial records.
Engage with all members of the Human Resources team to provide support with the recruitment process, training and development, worker's compensation and safety, employee benefit and wellness programs, employee development and payroll, as needed.
Assist with the onboarding of all employees and maintain accurate, complete information on current employees by performing such duties as:
Prepare letters of offer and assignment preparation for new employees; Input employee information into Banner for IPEDS and other systems reporting; Monitor the hiring of all temporary employees, assuring compliance with state personnel rules and state law; Prepare electronic personnel action forms (Epafs) for all administrative staff and faculty in the Banner system, obtaining appropriate approvals; Prepare and send Family Support Registry report, as required; Assure the timely collection of monthly payroll documents for new part time and temporary employees; Calculate and prepare employment verifications, as requested; Establish and maintain accurate, confidential personnel files for all employees, assuring proper adherence to retention schedules; recording and maintaining employee leave accounting systems and auditing employee timesheets; Periodically audit personnel files to allow for destruction of obsolete records in conformity with records retention schedule, obtaining appropriate approvals and maintaining log of destroyed files.
In collaboration with the President's office and the budget office, prepare and distribute the annual assignment letters to all administrative, faculty and classified staff.
Track years of service for all employees to ensure that milestones are recognized and awarded.
Assist the President's Office and Academic Affairs in organizing the annual recognition event and employee communications.
Provide complex information in person, by telephone, mail and e-mail to students, campus staff, faculty, and administration, including, but not limited to, information on searches, personnel policies and procedures, and benefits.
Assist in monitoring the evaluation process of all employees by performing such duties as:
Distribute evaluation forms to supervisors, and following up to ensure return by due dates; Report classified employee evaluation scores, as required; Prepare rating spreadsheets for use by administration in determining performance awards Maintain org charts to ensure they are updated as staffing changes occur and maintaining historical org charts.
Ensure Onecard is used properly and is accurately documented and allocated as required per policy.
Pay all invoices relevant to this position (workers comp, functional capacity exam invoices, etc.
) in a timely manner, either by Onecard or by Direct Request.
Obtain approvals and proper orgs from appropriate source for timely allocations.
Responsible for maintaining, updating, and auditing the Human Resources webpage.
Assist in running background checks for new hires, employee transfers and promotion, volunteers and others as required.
Keep current on CMU policies, SOC state personnel board rules, employment laws and regulations and other related policies, rules and regulations.
Examine and identify opportunities for efficiencies and improvements in customer service.
Provide back up support to other areas within the Office.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Demonstrated experience and knowledge within the area of Human Resources; in areas such as HR fundamentals, employment practices and hiring, recruitment, benefits, etc.
Proven ability to prioritize assignments, organize work, demonstrate initiative and follow-through, and complete multiple tasks with critical deadlines with minimal or no direction.
Exceptional customer service orientation, including ability to handle sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality Must be able to work effectively as a member of a team and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse groups of internal and external constituencies.
Exceptional knowledge in Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat and DocuSign Experience working with Ellucian Banner or HR/Payroll system Preferred
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in human resources management, business administration, or related field.
Knowledge configuring and updating webpages.
